The Chapter was formed during 1965 and joined NRHS in May of 1967. We operated train rides out of Camp Six located in Point Defiance Park for 47 years until Camp Six closed in 2011 and the equipment relocated to other sites.

In 2005 we assisted sister Chapter Pacific Northwest in Portland put on their convention. They assisted us in 2011 to put on our convention “Cascade Rails” in Tacoma. After the 2011 Convention we rented an office in Freight house Square for four years where the Don Dietrich Memorial Library was taken out of boxes and on display to the public. We have been involved with NRHS RailCamp West since 2012 to present except for the two years of Covid-19. We had a field trip to Yakima in 2018 to ride the Yakima Trolley.

On July 5th when several members when to visit the DuPont History Museum which is the home to what is left of the railroad which DuPont used to transport the munitions and the chemicals used to make them around the campus. The Chapter was influential in getting the Museum a grant from NRHS to preserve their wooden box car.

On February1, 2025, Chapter members attended the dedication of the rebuilt DuPont box car at the DuPont History Museum. There was a ribbon cutting, then a short seminar on the history of the chemical facilities and trains, and after the events inside the box car was pushed into the storage shelter.
